People often ask how to best make sense of all this…  For example “reading the latest Libra-Aries article, if I’m not a Libra is this still relevant to me?”  Or what if I have Libra Ascendant? Or Libra Sun or Moon?

Soul Astrology is the Astrology of our inner world. When we understand our Astrological (natal) chart, from a Soul-centered perspective, it can give our life purpose, and meaning.

To work with Soul Astrology as an effective tool for understanding your life and soul purpose you first need to know at least three things:

Your Ascendant, Your Sun Sign and Your Moon Sign.  (If you don’t know these, email your date, time and location of birth to ruth@SoulAstrologyWithRuth.com and I’ll tell you.)  Next you’ll need to understand how they relate to you, and to each other. This is outlined below.

Your Soul Sign – the Ascendant
The Ascendant is your Soul Sign and the potential for your highest expression. In this lifetime.  It is the most important sign in Soul Astrology.

Your Soul Sign indicates your innate core essence. The essence of who you really are. But this will remain latent while you are identified with, and driven by, the needs of the personality.

Our spiritual development involves realizing this core energy and expressing it into the world. Becoming a fully Soul-centered individual.

A Fully Integrated Individual
A fully Soul_Centered individual is fully integrated*. This means they have integrated their Soul and Personality and can access and fully express the highest octave of each sign. They will no longer experience polarity, so they can express the highest octave of Aries-Libra, Taurus-Scorpio, Gemini-Sagittarius, and so forth.

Your Personality Signs
Like the black and white yin/yang symbol, your personality has two sides. One which is in the light, so you are aware of it, the other is hidden, so you are less aware, if at all.

In Soul Astrology these two aspects of your personality are represented by your Sun and Moon Signs.

The Sun Sign
This is one half of your personality: the part that you are aware of because it is in the light. It is your ‘modus operandi’ (MO), your main way of perceiving the world and navigating your way through it.

For example:

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), your default position will be thinking your way through life;
Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) will feel your way forward;
Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) will focus on action and
Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) will want all the practicalities organized and the physical infrastructures in place.

The Moon Sign
This is the other half of your personality. It is your shadow, or the side of your personality that is most difficult for you to see because it is in the dark. Until you do some personal and spiritual development, this will be your blind spot.

However, it is who we become in relationship. It is our emotional ‘MO’, so in terms of how you relate with, and experience others, emotionally, your experience will be influenced largely by your Moon sign. It is your emotional world, and it is revealed to you through your relationships with others.

You can already see the combinations of personality types that are possible. For example if your Sun is Gemini and Moon is Cancer, your ‘MO’ will be thinking/feeling. You will basically be a thinking/feeling type. The combinations are many depending upon the various Sun/Moon signs, such as thinking/thinking; thinking/feeling; thinking/action; thinking/practical, or feeling/thinking; feeling/feeling, feeling/action, practical/action and so forth. You get the idea.

Take a moment now, to identify your personality type, simply based on your Sun/Moon sign. As mentioned above, this is how you mainly operate out in the world, and in your relationships, and it is learned behavior.

To find out what wants to be expressed in the world through you, you need to now look deeply at your Soul Sign. This is your light, that wants to shine!

Transcending your Personality Signs
Your personality is learned behavior.  All of the tendencies, predilections, skills, preferences, likes, dislikes, habits, gifts, talents, some good, some bad. It is all the product of your ‘conditioning’. Which means it is learned behavior that has accumulated over many lifetimes and is currently who we believe ourselves to be, but it is not our spirit.  It has been conditioned by the people, groups, societies and environments that you have found yourself in, from one lifetime to another.

Your work in this lifetime is to release the identification with these behaviors. This doesn’t mean losing your personality. It means recognizing who you really are: your Soul. Then working to become Soul-Centered so you may live the highest expression of that.

You do this by first of all identifying the highest octave/ expression of your Soul Sign, and then looking to where that shows up in your life. Then explore ways you can be more of that: bringing more of your Soul’s expression forward into the world. This is where your creativity comes in. All of your inventiveness and inspiration comes from your Soul.

Next we look at where the fears and lower octaves of your personality signs may be distracting you, and even sabotaging your efforts. For example if you have Moon in Pisces do you allow yourself to be paralyzed by irrational fears and negativity? Or if you have Sun in Aries do you really believe you are surrounded by fools who are blocking your progress?  Discovering and standing in your Soul-light can really help you to shift some of the deeply-entrenched limiting beliefs and behavior patterns of your personality.

Once this is achieved you will then (in addition to expressing your highest Soul-Light) also be able to realize the highest expression of your Sun and Moon signs. You will utilize the gifts and talents wrapped up in your Sun/Moon ‘package’ in the fullest expression of your Soul’s work.

Once you are fully Soul–centered you do not lose the talents inherent in your personality signs: you don’t stop thinking, feeling, acting and/or organizing physical resources; rather these activities become an integral expression of your Soul-light.

The Zodiac Through The Seasons
First of all, during Libra season each year (and the same goes for each Zodiac Sign) the Angel of Libra is currently over-lighting the whole of Humanity.

During this period (Libra) it is an ideal time to meditate upon harmony and right relations (for other signs/ seasons see my monthly newsletter**). We are all being bathed with these benefic energies, and can make use of them to advance our personal and spiritual development.

They are here for the purpose of our collective evolution, to prepare us as we advance into the Aquarian Age.

As we go through each Full Sun-Moon cycle, it would be of the greatest benefit for us each to meditate upon the highest octave of the current sign (this month Libra) and to aspire to bring that expression into the world through and for ourselves.

If you have personal planets in the ‘seasonal’ sign (Ascendant, Sun/Moon) it just means that this energy has more emphasis for your own personal spiritual development. However the energy, and the benefit, is here for us all.

Now you know how you can use the information about your Soul Sign and your Personality Signs, and how to relate that to the monthly Sun-Moon signs, to understand your life and soul purpose. It is a tool for spiritual growth.  What matters most is where you place your attention: on your Soul’s highest expression.

Your Rising Sign: Your Soul Purpose

feathery_friends

Artwork: “Feathered Friends” by Josephine Wall

Your soul is indicated by your Rising sign (Ascendant). This is the sign that was rising on the horizon at the time of your birth and, as the dawn of your life, it is considered by soul-centered astrologers to be the most important sign in astrology, precisely because it indicates your soul’s path, purpose and expression.

“The soul is the reality lying behind the persona, the mask of the soul. It is the soul or higher self that comes first, as does the Rising sign. The Rising sign, the soul and the soul’s purpose are therefore one and the same”

- Errol Weiner, Transpersonal Astrology

The soul is on an unfolding journey in which it eventually passes through each sign. The soul’s journey through the 12 signs of the Zodiac is described by the Tibetan Master in Alice Bailey’s “The Labours of Hercules: an astrological interpretation“. At each ‘stage’ we can see that the soul is growing and developing. Some astrologers suggest that the soul spends up to eight incarnations in each sign, in which case we can see that it would take the soul up to 84 incarnations to complete one cycle through the Zodiac. It’s not a simple linear progression from A to B, the soul’s journey is more complex than that, but for our current level of understanding it’s a good analogy.

Your Rising sign can give you a sense of what your soul has come to do in this lifetime…

Taurus Rising: The Taurus Soul

web_taurusEach one of us is on our own unique individual journey from fear to love. How we experience that journey in this lifetime is largely indicated by our rising sign (ascendant). As we continue exploring the 12 Zodiac signs from the perspective of the rising sign, we will begin to understand that how we react when we are in fear is not the highest and best expression of our soul, and that to reach the highest potential of our soul-sign we need to learn to respond from love in all of life’s challenges.

This series exploring the fear-based reactions and love-based expressions of each sign continues this month with Taurus. As we saw last month our rising sign is considered to be the indicator of our soul’s journey and purpose because it indicates the prevailing energy at the time of our birth. It is how we entered the world and it is how we move forward into all new situations throughout our lives. According to Errol Weiner in his book “Transpersonal Astrology” we can have the same soul sign for up to eight incarnations.

It seems then that since we are already a Taurus soul, our soul carries the energetic signature of Taurus. When the time of our birth is approaching, and Taurus rises on the horizon (the rising sign is the sign that is rising on the horizon at the exact time of our birth), a ‘window of opportunity’ opens and, because it already matches our soul vibration, we are able to ‘beam in’ on that frequency to begin a new incarnation. I like to think that our rising sign as the ‘beam of light’ that we rode in on!

As such our rising sign is also indicating the pure vibrant spiritual energy that we brought with us to be expressed in this lifetime, and which serves the dual purpose of fulfilling our own personal spiritual development, while at the same time making our own unique contribution to the spiritual upliftment of humanity and our beautiful Earth home. We are born at the precise place and time when a particular sign is rising on the horizon because we already resonate with that frequency. It is our wavelength.

“A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma”

- Sri Yukteswar

It’s Time Now… for PEACE

PeaceTODAY: Mars follows the Sun and Venus into peace-loving TAURUS at 12:48pm BST (7:48am ET/USA) which brings a very different feel to the day.

You may have noticed that during the past month (and especially the past week) things have been a little crazy out there in the world. Things started to change on Monday 15th when Venus moved into her own sign of Taurus, restoring the power of love and the power of the feminine. (Previously she’d been ‘on vacation’ in Aries where her powers are least effective)…

Aries Rising: The Aries Soul

web_aries

“Aries” by Josephine Wall. ©Leanin Tree

On March 20th the Sun entered Aries marking the beginning of a new Zodiac year. In many traditions this also marks the first day of spring (or autumn in the southern hemisphere). It is a time of new beginnings, new growth: a time of creation. What better time to begin a new series exploring the contrasts between the personality and soul expressions of each sign, beginning with the inspirational, innovative and impulsive sign of Aries?

Your soul is indicated by your Rising sign (Ascendant). This is the sign that was rising on the horizon at the time of your birth and, as such, is considered by soul-centered astrologers* to be the most important sign in astrology, precisely because it indicates your soul’s path, purpose and expression.

If you have Aries Rising, you could say that you are an ‘Aries Soul’. Simply put, if you have Aries Rising you are here to express the highest spiritual purpose of Aries, to the degree that you can, in this lifetime.

“The soul is the reality lying behind the persona, the mask of the soul. It is the soul or higher self that comes first, as does the Rising sign. The Rising sign, the soul and the soul’s purpose are therefore one and the same”

- Errol Weiner, Transpersonal Astrology*

Whether you will experience and actualize the full spiritual potential of your Ascendant or not, depends upon your level of consciousness. If you are spiritually asleep, you will naturally experience the qualities of your Ascendant as an inherent part of your personality. As you awaken to your spiritual purpose you will feel a quickening, experiencing the subtle stirrings of your soul’s calling, through your Ascendant. The Ascendant bridges the worlds between sleep and awakening…

"Pisces" by Josephine Wall. ©Leanin Tree

“Pisces” by Josephine Wall. ©Leanin Tree

Pisces Season is upon us once again bringing with it an opportunity to check in where we are up to on the vast continuum of human experience ranging from glamor, illusion and delusion right up to enlightenment and Universal Love! Pisces brings us full circle. Not only with the completion of one Zodiac year, but in this current series of exploring the personality and soul rulers of each sign.

Throughout the past year we have followed the soul’s journey through the twelve signs of the Zodiac where the soul began as ‘a point of light in the mind of God’ in Aries, right through to the flowering of human consciousness in Aquarius and finally arriving here at the sign of the World Savior in Pisces.

The ‘World Savior’ referred to here is the recognition of humanity’s true role in respect to our Mother Earth, when we have fully blossomed as a species and all our hearts beat as one, as the ‘sacred heart’ of humanity in Pisces.

“In essence the World Savior is the incarnation of Love
within each one of us.”
- Alan Oken

We have discussed how the planetary ‘rulers’ are space holders or custodians maintaining the necessary conditions for specific stages of development in the evolution of human consciousness, and three planets are important when we look to the human experience in Pisces. Jupiter and Neptune are custodians at personality level while Pluto is the custodian at both soul and hierarchical level. This speaks to the transformative potential inherent in Pisces…

Uranus, Jupiter and The Inner Journey of Aquarius

Aquarius Artwork by Josephine Wall

“Aquarius” by Josephine Wall. ©Leanin Tree.

Aquarius Season is upon us once again bringing with it an opportunity to check in where we are up to in dedicating our personal energy to the body of humanity.

The sign of Aquarius is associated with individuality, uniqueness, science, technology, the future, humanitarianism, the new age and group consciousness.

According to Esoteric Astrology, the last four signs of the Zodiac: Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces are ‘signs of service’. Following the soul’s journey through the 12 signs of the Zodiac, after the soul in Capricorn has followed and completed the path of light, leading to Christ Consciousness, it is time for the soul in Aquarius to become the World Server, flowing ‘love and life for the benefit of thirsty humanity’.

Four planets are important in creating the conditions necessary for the soul’s development and experience in Aquarius: Saturn, Uranus, Jupiter and the Moon. Saturn was traditionally considered to be the planetary ruler of Aquarius, and to many people still will be. The conditions that we mentioned in last month’s article pertaining to Saturn and Capricorn, also relate to Aquarius when humanity is largely personality-centered and driven by fear and attachment. Once the soul has completed the stage of development in Capricorn, and has accessed Christ Consciousness, it no longer is limited by the constraints of Saturn and comes under the custodianship (planetary rulership) of Uranus…

2013: Year of The Water Snake and a Grand Water Trine

Year of a Water SnakeToday marks the beginning of the Chinese and Tibetan New Year. This year I find it interesting that we have the year of the water snake coinciding with a Grand Water Trine in July. No accident that will be Cancer Season, and Cancer is the sign of emotional intelligence. Indeed the first week in Cancer has been dubbed the ‘week of the empath’ (see “The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider) so if you were born in that week, you are possibly even more empathic than your fellow Cancerians (who are all empathic)

When the element of water dominates the theme is always one of mastering our emotions. This means that we may experience circumstances that catalyze us collectively into ever expanding degrees of emotional awareness, emotional intelligence, emotional resilience, emotional competence and emotional literacy. The ability to deal with negative emotions like jealousy and anger and cultivate positive ones like empathy and affection. These are stepping stones in humanity’s journey towards limitless compassion.

This might sound like an abstract concept but at a very real practical level it can lead to the foundationing and expansion of groundbreaking projects like The Roots of Empathy  which are making a huge impact practically, at grass-roots level in communities, by teaching empathy to children. This in turn is significantly reducing the incidence of bullying.

Rarely do we hear about these amazing initiatives in the mainstream media which is fear-based, so it is important that we use the power of the internet to seek out alternate news sources that are solution-focused such as Daily Good  and Positive News. This helps us to keep a balanced view and to see that, even though these are undoubtedly challenging times, a huge wave of humanity is rising to the occasion by working towards practical, tangible and beneficial outcomes.

Cancer is a Cardinal Sign, and cardinal energy is all about action, initiative and leadership. In the watery element, this is always in the realm of human emotions, love and compassion. Esoterically Cancer reminds us that we are all one human family. Snakes are also associated with Scorpio and the power of transformation through emotional mastery, while esoterically the watery triad culminates in Pisces and universal love.

2013 should prove a very interesting year!

What To Do About Bullying? Begin Where You Are...

Reblogged from Goodbye Stress ... Hello Freedom!:

It brought tears to my eyes as I read about the results of a groundbreaking project that teaches empathy to children in schools by introducing them to babies. Mary Gordon, founder of “Roots of Empathy” didn’t intend to find a solution for bullying yet, as a result of teaching empathy to children, bullying has reduced significantly:

"Sure enough, we know from independent research on Roots of Empathy that its greatest effect is in decreasing aggression among children—a hugely important result, because aggression is the gateway to all other kinds of bad outcomes for children.

AS Aquarius Season continues... It brought tears to my eyes as I read about the results of a groundbreaking project that teaches empathy to children in schools by introducing them to babies. For those of you who've read my posts about resolving the Aquarius-Leo polarity, this project is precisely an example of the power of our times. How one committed empowered individual (Leo) is initiating a powerful humanitarian project that is benefiting humanity on a global scale (Aquarius)... through opening the human heart (Leo and Pisces) Well worth taking the time to find out more about this project, spread the good news, and support it in every way you can...

Saturn, and The Inner Journey of Capricorn

web_capricorn

“Capricorn” by Josephine Wall. ©Leanin Tree

Capricorn Season is upon us once again, bringing with it an opportunity to return to the light. While having their feet planted firmly upon the ground our Capricorn friends have clear sight of the mountaintop and a sure steady method that will take them there. The sign of Capricorn is associated with practical methodology, steadfastness, business, finances, resource management, ambition and spiritual aspiration. This sign of extremes is associated with both the worst excesses of materialistic egotism at personality level, and yet esoterically is associated with the heights of spiritual aspiration leading to Christ consciousness. We will understand why as we explore the planetary conditions that exist for the soul’s highest development in the mysterious sign of Capricorn.

“Esoterically,  all world Saviours and Sun Gods are born in Capricorn but also the very worst type of man- hard, materialistic, cruel, proud, selfishly ambitious and egoistic. The head rules the heart in such cases,  whereas in the perfect example of the influences of Capricorn , head and heart are perfectly balanced.”

- The Tibetan Master DK, Esoteric Astrology

As we follow the soul’s journey through the 12 signs of the Zodiac, after the Archer clearly identified the path in Sagittarius, in Capricorn it is time to follow that path of light all the way to Christ Consciousness…
